I'm retired. Health issues dictated that.
I miss some of my favourite sports. I was an avid martial arts student working out up to five days a week and usually two classes each day. I am ranked in several styles of martial arts, Aikido, Daito-ryu Aiki-jutsu, and Jujutsu. My favourite is Aikido, largely because the instructors I worked with in Aikido were far more advanced and true to the Japanese cultural and martial arts. Even though my health has stabilized, I am unable to return to the mat. I regret that.
I was fortunate to be able to mix my business with my interests in programming. My company produced leading edge internet applications and websites. I was blessed to work with some truly skilled and able people in India and one in Dubai. They became more than just co-workers, nearing the level of family. I think of them each day.
I contributed significantly to the Open Source community with content management systems, email transportation, caching tools, templating systems, and more.
Photography has been a hobby for more than 50 years now. I started back in high school – quite fortunately, my home room teacher also led the camera club. A large closet in the home classroom had been converted to a dark room and my interests were stoked there. Even though I developed my own film and made my own prints, I am thrilled that digital photography is here and those smelly chemicals are a thing of the past. But, it's not all about the print, or the final photo. Photography is about light, controlling that light, and capturing it. Light by itself is not the end goal, composing the scene or subject is an art form in itself.

The club is about photography not gear. It does not matter what you use to take a photo: cell phone, GoPro, point-and-shoot camera, DSLR (digital single lens reflex), or MILC (mirrorless interchangeable lens camera).
